Connection

Requirements

For the data connection, a shielded Ethernet cable of Cat. 5E or higher is required.
For operating Qb devices, Power over Ethernet (PoE) must be available. The corresponding equipment must support Type 1 powered devices (IEEE 802.3at) and be certified according to local safety standards and regulations.
For mounting the sensor, a mounting base is required. Contact Blickfeld for suitable mounting options.

Ethernet Interface

By default, Qb devices use a 1000BASE-T Ethernet port for communication. This same port is used for powering the sensor via PoE technology.

When a Qb device is configured to communicate via the integrated WiFi interface, the Ethernet port is only used for powering the device.

Power over Ethernet

Qb sensors are a Type 1 powered devices (PD) according to the PoE standard IEEE 802.3at. They can be powered by any power supplying equipment (PSE) that conforms with the IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at standards.

Some PoE injectors available on the market, often designated as passive PoE, use different voltage levels than those defined by the IEEE 802.3af/at standards. Qb devices might not function properly if such injectors are used. Make sure to always use PoE equipment that complies with the aforementioned IEEE standards.

Connector specification

The wired network port of a Qb device is a IP67-rated M12 round connector (as per IEC 61076-2-109). The connector is supplied with a protective cap, which must be removed before the electrical installation. When no cable is connected to Qb and during storage, please put the cap back onto the connector.

Qb can only maintain its IP67 rating if either an Ethernet cable with IP67 rating or the protective cap is properly screwed onto the Ethernet port.
