Getting Started
This page describes the necessary steps to connect to your Cube for the first time.
The easiest way to learn about how to set up your Cube is to follow our online video tutorial.
These videos were recorded with the firmware v1.14.0.
Ethernet Interface
The Blickfeld Cube uses an Ethernet port as a connection interface. Two network configuration modes are available:
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is used to retrieve an IP address from the network. By default, the Cube is configured for automatic IP address assignment using DHCP. If you do not have a DHCP server available in your network, please use the fallback IP address of the Cube to establish the first connection.
If the device is to be used in an unmanaged network, a static IP address and subnet can be configured in the WebGUI. The IP address and the subnet must match the IP configuration of the target network. Otherwise, the Cube will not be reachable.
If you have troubles in connecting, or if the configured network mode is unknown, the fallback IP address can always be used for a reconfiguration.
How to connect to the Cube for the first time
How to connect to the Cube for the first time depends on the kind of network you have set up. If your network runs a DHCP service, connection can be established easily by using the hostname that is assigned to the Cube. If no DHCP service is available, you can use the fallback IP-Address of the Cube to connect, as detailed below.
Connecting using DHCP mode
Connect the Cube to your Local Area Network (LAN) using an Ethernet cable.
Make sure your computer has connection to the same LAN as the Cube.
Open a web browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
Open the address http://cube-xxxxxxxxx/ and replace xxxxxxxxx by the 9-digit serial number of the Cube, which you can find on the type label. Note that for some older devices a 4-digit serial number must be inserted instead.
The dashboard view of the WebGUI should now be visible.
Connecting using static or fallback IP address
Connect the Cube to your Local Area Network (LAN) using an Ethernet cable.
Make sure your computer has connection to the same LAN as the Cube or is directly connected to it. If you want to use the fallback IP address, the Ethernet adapter of your computer must be configured with a suitable IP address from the 192.168.26.xxx subnet, where xxx must not be 0, 26, nor 255.
Open a web browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
Open the address http://192.168.26.26/.
The dashboard view of the WebGUI should now be visible.
You are now connected to the WebGUI, which allows configuring the Cube and displaying the LiDAR data collected by the sensor. For instance, you can now reconfigure the network setting to your liking, e.g. by setting a custom static IP address or by changing the hostname of the Cube. Note that the fallback IP address will still work, independent of your customized setting.
